Sales Ideas for Art
- Galleries are connected to collectors. A gallery is an efficient way to get your work to the public, garner reviews and recognition, and to generate sales. Galleries can be selective. In competitive markets like major cities, top-notch work is required. If you are just starting, look at smaller galleries and non-profit galleries. Once your resume is built-up a bit, you can try for the more lucrative establishments.
- A direct mail post card is a great way to reach a large number of persons cheaply. There are inexpensive services available on the Internet that will create the card. You must only upload a good quality photo and insert some text. Develop a mailing list. Start with friends and family. Add co-workers or those who have expressed interest in your art. The list will grow. Send a card to announce new work or a show.
- An open studio, or a self-made show in a space rented short-term is another option. It bypasses commercial galleries. It also gets your work straight to the public. Find a high-traffic spot if possible. Do an opening with all the fixings. Send out notices. Develop a price list. Contact the press. The down side to this is gallery sitting. After the opening, the gallery must be monitored. This can be time-consuming. A low-impact option is a weekend open studio.
- Create a website. If you cannot do it, there are plenty of templates available for artists that allow you to simply upload images of your work to and add text. If that is too much, find a tech-savvy friend to walk you through it. Put up a resume and contact information. You can have a statement as well if you want, but it's not obligatory. Top-quality images are obligatory. Get the best pictures you can. Once the site is up, send e-mail announcements to your contacts.
