How to Ride a Chairlift
- 1). Make sure your lift pass is visible and that you have control of all your belongings as you wait in line. Get into the line for singles if you are by yourself or for doubles if you are with someone.
- 2). Hold one pole in each hand if you are skiing or snowshoeing with poles. If you are snowboarding, you should remove your leash foot from the binding while keeping your lead foot in the binding. Snowshoes should be taken off.
- 3). Watch as the chair gets close because the lift operator will motion for you to get on. If there is no lift operator, wait behind the line and wait until the chair is in the loading area.
- 4). Look over your shoulder and watch the chair get closer. Wait until you feel the lift hit the back of your legs. If you are on the sides of the lift, you can grab the side as you sit down. If not on the side, put one had down on the seat as you crouch down. Pull the safety bar down.
- 5). Keep your skis or snowboard pointed up as you ride the lift. When you get to the end of the lift a sign will let you know it is safe to lift the safety bar. Make sure your board and skis are still pointed upward.
- 6). Rise up from your seat as your feet, skis or board touch the ground and move forward down the ramp.
