How to Repair a Cement In-Ground Pool

    • 1). Drain the water from the pool and allow the surface to dry. Walk around the pool to check for cracks in the concrete surface. Use a chalk pencil to circle areas that require repair.

    • 2). Sand down the cracks to a depth of half an inch and smooth out jagged edges with a grinder. Add an inch in length to each end of the crack to cover the damage fully with the cement mixture. Smooth down jagged edges around chips, using the grinder to prepare for a new application of cement. Brush away any dust or debris from the repair sites with the broom.

    • 3). Fill the crack with caulking adhesive. Leave a quarter-inch gap between the top layer of adhesive and the pool surface to provide room for the cement patch. Allow the adhesive to dry as directed by the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4). Mix quickset cement in a clean tub according to the manufacturer's directions. Spray the area with a light mist from the water hose and scoop out a small amount of cement with a putty knife to spread over the crack or chip. Pack the cement into the crack to remove any air bubbles and smooth away excess with the knife.

    • 5). Fill the pool as soon as you are finished repairing the crack. If you have many repairs to make, place a water-dampened cloth over each repaired crack to keep the cement from drying and cracking.
