- 1). Locate a secure backing to mount the screw hook. Wood is an excellent surface for mounting screw hooks. On drywall or plaster, locate a stud for heavy installations. Mark the position with a pencil.
- 2). For teacup hooks, push a tiny pilot hole into the backing using a small awl. For larger hooks, drill a pilot hole using a bit a size smaller than the screw hook.
- 3). If mounting the screw hook on drywall, masonry or plaster, drill a hole as marked and insert a plastic anchor sized to the screw hook. Tap the plastic anchor into the hole.
- 4). Twist the screw hook into the pilot hole, or into the plastic anchor. For larger hooks, use a pair of pliers. The screw hook should fit firmly against the wall or ceiling, with the open end of the hook facing up, or to the side required for the application.
