How to Cut the Edges on Stained Glass
- 1). Place the pattern of the shape you will be cutting on the table, face up. Put the glass over the pattern, taking care that none of the glass hangs over the edge of the table.
- 2). Grasp the glass cutter, wheel-end down, as though you are holding a pencil. Place the cutting wheel on the glass over the line you will be following, 1/16 inch from the edge of the glass.
- 3). Hold the cutter wheel straight up and down and draw it firmly down the cutline in one smooth, slow motion. Apply a constant, even pressure and continue the cut clear off the edge of the glass.
- 4). Tap the other end of the cutting tool along the cutting line on the other side of the glass to open up the cut.
- 5). Grasp the glass on the edge where you finished the cut, with one hand on either side of the cutline. Position your thumbs parallel to the score line and apply pressure while turning your wrists outward (as though you are breaking a graham cracker) to separate the pieces.
