How to Construct a PVC Frame Greenhouse
- 1). Measure the space outdoors where you wish to build your greenhouse. Roughly level off the ground with dirt, gravel, or sand, using a rake.
- 2). Draw a plan on a piece of paper for your greenhouse in the shape of a rectangle. Mark the dimensions based on the space you have available for your greenhouse. Measure the PVC pipes according to the dimensions in the plan and mark the pipes with a pencil.
- 3). Cut the pipes with a hacksaw blade to the right sizes. Smooth the ends of the pipes using sandpaper.
- 4). Drive in wooden stakes at the corners of the rectangle. Tie string around the stakes to help make a defined rectangular area in order to get the approximate positions where holes have to be made (see next step).
- 5). Dig deep holes right next to the four corner posts, using the post-hole digger. Make holes on the long sides of the rectangle, four feet apart.
- 6). Place metallic rebar into each of the holes and hammer it deep into the ground. Fill the holes with soil again and pack it firmly with your feet. Slide the PVC pipes over the rebar pieces situated along the longer side of the rectangle. Insert the upper ends of the pipes located on one side into the straight connectors. Bend the pipes to insert the connectors over the pipes on the opposite side. Use glue inside the connectors to solidify the greenhouse frame.
- 7). Take one end of the plastic sheet and start wrapping it upward from the longer side. Bring it to the top and then down the other side to the ground level. Cover the back side, using the excess breadth of the sheet. Leave the front portion open. Bring any excess sheet to the back from both the right and left sides and fasten with clamps. Attach the whole plastic sheet to the pipes with the help of clamps.
- 8). Put your 2x4 pieces of lumber on the ground along the bottom of the greenhouse. Staple the sheet to the wood all through its length. The wood keeps the sheet in place during heavy winds.
- 9). Access the greenhouse through one of the short sides. Leave the front portion covered with plastic and remove a clamp to gain access to the inside of the greenhouse.
