How to Mount a Cable Box With a Flat-Screen TV on a Wall
- 1). Mount your flat-screen television according to the instructions with its mounting kit. Flat-screen televisions and their wall mounts will vary from brand to brand. Make sure to leave about 1 foot of space from the bottom of where you mount your television because this is where you will build a shelf to hold your cable box.
- 2). Measure an area approximately 2 feet long about 1 foot below the bottom of your mounted television. Use an electronic stud finder to find studs in your wall spaced around 2 feet apart. Mark these spots with a pencil. A stud finder is not necessary if you will be mounting the shelf into brick.
- 3). Cut your piece of wood or particle board to 2 feet in length and set it aside.
- 4). Mount the metal shelf brackets to the wall using the markings you made over the wall studs. Attach the shelf brackets to the wall by screwing them in with 1-inch wood screws. If you are mounting your cable box shelf into brick, special brick nails will have to be used. Brick nails are simply hammered in with a hammer.
- 5). Lay the cut piece of board across the brackets and secure it to the shelf bracket with wood screws.
- 6). Set your cable box on your new shelf and attach cable-in and television-out cables. Again, televisions and cable boxes do vary, so the steps for connecting your television and cable box could differ as well. If you have trouble connecting your television to your cable box, contact your local cable company for technical support.
