Pool Equipment Explained
- There are two types of nets that are used with a pool: the deep net and the shallow net. Each net is used differently. The deep net, or leaf rake, is used to gather debris such a leaves from the pool floor. The shallow net, or skimmer net, is used to catch bugs, leaves or pieces of grass that may accumulate on the surface of the water.
- The vacuum is used to remove dirt and sand from the bottom of the pool. A manual vacuum consists of a brush-filled head that is attached to a hose. The opposite end of the hose is attached to a vacuum seal plate that fits in the skimmer. The debris filled water is either filtered and returned to the pool or routed out of the pool via the waste hose. There are automatic vacuums that attach to skimmers in the same way, but they are best used on pools with minimal debris.

Pool brushes are usually around 18 inched long and are used for cleaning algae, dirt, and other debris off the pool walls. For a vinyl-lined pool the bristles are nylon; for a tile or cement pool the bristle are stainless steel. There are even special brushes for cleaning hard to reach places such as corners and around jets and hoses. - There are three types of pool filters: diatomaceous earth filters, sand filters and cartridge filters. The sand filter uses silica to filter the water and trap the debris leaving the water clear. The diatomaceous filter, or DE, uses powdered diatomite to clean the water. A filter cartridge cleans the pool water by forcing it through a pleated filter that traps the debris. Filter cartridges are changed as they become clogged with debris.

Chemicals are added to a pool for a variety or reasons. Some chemicals are used to sanitize the water, while others are added to maintain the correct Ph balance. Chemicals are also added to a pool to eliminate algae, which if left untreated can make the pool turn green or brown. These various chemicals are fundamental for keeping your pool water clean, clear and sanitary
