Discovering Kiev

Kiev is an important scientific, industrial, educational and cultural centre of Eastern Europe. Many historical landmarks, higher education institutes and high-tech industries are located in this city. It has fantastic infrastructural, including one of the best metro systems in the world. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kiev remained the capital of Ukraine and is its largest and richest city. New sectors of the economy such as services and finance aided to the growth of the city. Kiev is the most pro-Western and pro-democracy region Ukraine, with dominating political parties calling for tighter integration with the European Union.

Kiev generates a substantial amount of visitors. The Moscow to Kiev train is one of the busiest routes in the region. The historical centre of the East Slavic civilization, it is also the centre of Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Its sacred sites include the Monastery of the Caves and the Saint Sophia Cathedral and have attracted pilgrims for centuries. They are now recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kiev is also home to numerous theaters, one opera house and one concert hall. The World War II Museum is located here and display military history and equipment. Two botanical gardens and numerous parks are attractions for nature lovers. There are numerous islands, one which has an amusement park, where boating, fishing and waters sports are the popular pastimes. Kiev has numerous football clubs, both professional and amateur, and boasts a reconstructed Olympic stadium styled after the stadium from the 1980 Summer Olympics.

The center of Kiev becomes a spacious outdoor party place during summer nights with numerous restaurants, clubs and cafes lining the streets. There are numerous attractions and facilities where one can go bowling, go carting, billiards, play paint ball and even shooting ranges. A hundred year old Kiev zoo is located on 40 hectares and is known to be home to a huge variety of species. Though Kiev is not a particularly popular tourist destination, interest in the city is growing. With increasing interest in travelling the Black Sea and exploring those regions, Kievs popularity as a tourist hub is increasing. On top of that, the train route Kiev-Moscow and vice versa garners so many footfalls, proving travelling to the city is easy. A city so rich with cultural and historical significance will always draw the information seekers and intellectual explorers. This combined with the citys brilliant infrastructure and modern way of life has already started to garner attention.
