Tide has offered a detergent formula that included an oxygen-based bleach for several years. It was first offered as Tide with Bleach Alternative; then became Tide Vivid White + Bright. The latest iteration is part of the Tide Plus collection - Tide Plus Bleach Alternative.

Tide Plus Bleach Alternative

Tide Plus Bleach Alternative is safe to use on all washable fabrics - including colors. The liquid formula is available for both standard and high-efficiency (he) washers in Original and Clean Breeze scents.

Listed ingredients are biodegradable surfactants (anionic and nonionic) and enzymes. The full list of ingredients - available on the P&G website - are:

Tide Plus Bleach Alternative is offered in the iconic orange bottle in 92 ounce (48 loads) sizes with a suggested retail price of $13.99. The bottles contain 25 percent or more post-consumer recycled plastic.

About Laundry Recommendations

When I wash clothes, I want the load to come out clean and stain-free the first time. I'm not a big fan of having to do something again because it didn't work the first time. Tide has always been a reliable, high-performing detergent that most often took care of laundry problems with one try. However, I am a big fan of oxygen-based bleaches that whiten, brighten and help remove tannin and dye-based stains like coffee, tea and excessive dye transfer.

I gave Tide Plus Bleach Alternative a test on our weekly laundry and on pre-stained squares of muslin (ketchup, grass, mud and cooking oil). The laundry came out smelling fresh - but not heavily perfumed - and stain free. For the heavily stained squares, I pretreated with a bit of the liquid formula and worked it in well. Then, I let the formula work for 15 minutes before washing. The stains came out in warm water, leaving no traces.
