What are Molds?

• Molds are types of fungi that can grow both indoors and outdoors. They flourish in damp environments, such as your bathroom, kitchen and laundry room. Mold reproduces by producing spores, which can survive harsh environmental conditions like dryness. To kill mold, the mold and spores must be removed through cleaning and the source of dampness must be resolved or removed.
  
  

Killing Mold with Bleach

• To kill mold, a bleach solution can be made by combining one cup of bleach with one gallon of water. Do not exceed one cup of bleach per gallon. Clean the affected area and let it stand for 15 minutes. Rinse the area with clean, warm water and dry manually or allow it to air dry thoroughly.
  
  

The Catch

• For porous surfaces, such as wood, the Environmental Protection Agency no longer recommends a complete sterilization. Instead, it recommends removing the mold through cleaning and solving the moisture problem in the area so that the indoor moisture level is equal to or lower than the outdoor moisture level.
