How to Enhance RV Lighting

    Enhance Interior Lighting

    • 1). Decide where you need additional lighting. You might be able to solve the problem by changing a bulb to a higher wattage. Some lighting fixtures have a maximum wattage; do not exceed it.

    • 2). Choose stick-up lights for the simplest way to add lights to your RV. These are battery operated, and if you buy rechargeable batteries, the cost of operating the lights will be much lower. You can recharge the batteries when you are back at home or when your RV is plugged into 110-volt wiring.

    • 3). Choose solar lights if you are traveling to an area that gets a fair amount of sunshine daily. These solar lights are practical because, once they have been purchased, there are no extra expenses associated with running them. They are also portable, so you can move them from room to room, putting them where you need the light.

    • 4). Buy alternate globes for your lamps if the lighting is already good in your RV and you want to change or upgrade the look of the interior. Many stores sell various styles of globes to replace the ones that are standard in RVs. Measure the globes you want to replace or bring them along to make sure you get a good fit when you are shopping for new ones.

    Enhance Exterior Lighting

    • 1). Go solar with your outdoor RV lighting. Using solar lighting outdoors makes a lot of sense, especially if you're parked in a sunny location. Solar outdoor lamps charge by day, and many of them contain circuits that turn them on at night when you need them. The biggest advantage of solar lights is that they are free to operate, and no wires are required for the lights that use built-in solar panels.

    • 2). Choose another kind of lighting if solar won't work for you. There are many attractive outdoor lighting systems that will create a bright, usable outdoor patio. You may not be able to read a book outside at night, but you'll certainly be able to find something that will light your dinner table or watch the kids play. A power strip can very really helpful for plugging in the extra lighting you need.

    • 3). Shop online or locally for exterior RV lighting. Online shopping may be easier if you live far from a bricks-and-mortar store that sells RV lighting compatible with 12-volt power supplies.
