Video: How to Square a Number on Microsoft Word

Video Transcript

Hello, my name is Josiah Rea. I'm going to show you how to square a number in Microsoft Word. Microsoft doesn't do so well with calculations but if you're trying to write out a function it's got some pretty cool tools. So, I'm inside of Word and first we're going to write this out, we're going to square the number 3 so 3 and the standard sort of format when you are doing this when you don't have something to do subscripts and superscripts that means you've got your regular texts and subscript is little texts above and I'm sorry little texts below, superscript is little text above, when you don't have something like that, the standard format is to use the little kind of A icon on top of one of your numbers. So on my keyboard it's above the 6 so we're going to hold down the shift and push 6 and push 2. So that symbol basically means we're bringing 3 to the power of 2. So it works, it's not really pretty though. To make it really nice looking, I'm going to erase this and we're going to go to insert and click equation and so we can go, we can type the same thing in actually and push enter and it automatically puts 2 as a superscript. Now we can also get a little fancier if you come underneath equations you've got a whole mess of built in equations that you can use, you can insert a new equation and there's this area up here that will kind of help you format it into just about any style that you could possibly think of. So I hope you've enjoyed that short video on how to square numbers in Microsoft Word. If you've got any other questions please contact me at Josiah at Jreastudios.com. I'm Josiah Rea.
