How to Bridge a Car Amplifier From Stereo to Mono

    • 1). Turn off all the power to your amplifier. Turn off the ignition of your car, and unscrew the terminal on your amplifier that's connected to the negative ground wire. When the terminal is loose, pull the wire out of the terminal.

    • 2). Look at the speaker output terminals of your amplifier for any marks indicating which channels are to be used when bridging the amp. Generally, a positive terminal from one channel and a negative terminal terminal from one channel are used, but the terminals used will vary from amplifier to amplifier. If you're uncertain, consult your amp's manual or check the manufacturer's web site--many store manuals online.

    • 3). Loosen the terminals used for the bridged output with a Phillips screwdriver or hex wrench.

    • 4). Slide the bare ends of the speaker wire connected to your sub underneath the correct terminals and tighten the terminals to hold the wires in place.

    • 5). Reconnect the ground cable to your amplifier.
