How to Respool a Homelite Mitylite Trimmer

    • 1). Turn off the engine and disconnect the rubber spark plug attachment from the spark plug, which should be located on top of the engine's body.

    • 2). Flip the trimmer so the engine is on the ground. Turn the spool retainer (the center of the string head) clockwise to take it off. Pull the spool off of the string head and remove any remaining pieces of trimmer line from the spool.

    • 3). Cut off two pieces of trimmer string, each should be about 9 to 10 feet long.

    • 4). Thread one of the pieces through the anchor hole on the spool. The anchor hole is the small hole in the upper part of the spool on the outside ring.

    • 5). Wind the string counterclockwise around the upper half of the spool, filling it until there is only about a quarter inch of space left on the spool.

    • 6). Stick the remaining six inches or so in the notched slot on the very top, outer edge of the spool.

    • 7). Thread the second piece of string through the bottom anchor hole and wind it counterclockwise along the bottom half of the spool. Stick the remaining string in the notched slot on the other side.

    • 8). Put the spool back on the string head shaft and reattach the spool retainer.
