How to Remove Heating Radiators

    • 1). Shut off the power for the boiler that controls the heating system. You can either switch off the power switch on the boiler or turn off the power for the circuit that holds the boiler at the main switch.

    • 2). Go to the heating radiator that you want to remove. Place newspapers or towels on the ground or floor beneath. Turn the wheel valve, the one that controls the temperature, all the way shut.

    • 3). Remove the cap on the lockshield valve. This is the valve at one end of the radiator covered by the plastic cap. Loosen the screw (usually Phillips) holding the cap in place. Remove the cap. Hold the coupling connecting the lockshield valve to the radiator with a pair of pliers. With your other hand, take a wrench and tighten the hexagonal nut at the top of the lockshield valve clockwise until it stops.

    • 4). Place the bowl underneath the drain valve. These are typically located on the side with the lockshield valve. Open the drain valve by turning the hex nut counterclockwise with the wrench. Open the bleed valve at the top of the radiator with the key to equalize the pressure and allow the water to run out quicker.

    • 5). Secure the lockshield valve in place by holding it with a pair of pliers. Take another pair of pliers and loosen the coupling between the lockshield valve and the radiator. Do the same thing for the wheel valve end of the radiator.

    • 6). Lift the radiator up and off the brackets mounting it to the wall.
