How to Get 3M Double-sided Tape Off Furniture
- 1). Try to scrape the tape off the furniture with your fingernail. Start at one corner. Scratch at the corner with your nail to lift that corner. If it works, attempt to peel the tape off from the loosened corner. Keep scratching and peeling until you can make no more progress.
- 2). Apply hot air from a hair dryer onto the double-sided tape. Keep the nozzle of the hair dryer at least 3 inches from the surface of the furniture at all times. Every 20 seconds or so, try to peel the tape. It will eventually come up, but it may leave some residue.
- 3). Rub loose, gummy adhesive off with your finger. If that doesn't work, place a piece of tape over the adhesive. Rub the back of the tape with your finger, then lift it. Repeat until you can make no more progress.
- 4). Moisten a soft sponge with furniture cleaner, and scrub the residue. If that doesn't work, 3M recommends using its specially formulated adhesive remover or a citrus- or ammonia-based cleaner.
- 5). Moisten a clean rag with water, wring it out, and wipe up any cleaning solution residue.
- 6). Buff the furniture dry. If the adhesive is hard, dry and impervious to your cleaning efforts, scrape hardened double-sided tape adhesive off with sandpaper or a razor blade. Work carefully. Hold the razor blade nearly parallel with the furniture's surface to minimize the risk of gouging or scratching the furniture. You may have to restore the furniture's paint or coating if it is damaged by your scraping or sanding.
