For years concrete countertops have been coveted by designers and home owners for their many attributes: they are beautiful and strong, have an organic quality and are environmentally responsible. Despite their positives, however, they remain a rare commodity mainly due to their impracticalities and high cost.
Concrete, like granite, is beautiful and strong. Refreshingly while the design applications of concrete are limitless, it is mixed locally. It is formed rather than cut, so there is no wastage, and it can be used in applications not open to stone slabs.
Traditional concrete countertops have their own impracticalities, however. The process and materials used by today's concrete countertop producers and taught by such pioneers in the industry as Cheng and Rhodes, are big, bulky and take a lot of time and material to create. They use materials such as rebar or chicken wire to help give flexural strength to a brittle material. They contain traditional aggregate that shows through, which can be beautiful but is not always the desired look.
we knew there had to be a better material out there, a material that did not have to travel the world first; a material that could be formed into beautiful shapes, colors and textures, economically and quickly. That is when we were introduced to SureCrete's new Xtreme series concrete mixes. The technology behind this Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete is revolutionary and gives us a practical and economic material with which to service your needs. our craftsman traveled to Calgary, where SureCrete mixes are already being used and received full training from a SureCrete Representative from Tampa Bay, Florida where this amazing new technology was first developed.
