How to Acid Wash Cement Slabs

    • 1). Clean the surface of the cement by sweeping with the broom. You can also remove loose dirt by using a shop vac.

    • 2). Mix one tablespoon of floor detergent with one gallon of water in a bucket. Pour the solution on the floor and scrub with a stiff broom. Rinse the floor with water from the garden hose.

    • 3). Mix a 10:1 ratio of muriatic acid to water in an acid-safe sprayer. This means that for every 10 cups of water, you need to add one cup of muriatic acid.

    • 4). Spray the muraitic acid solution on the damp cement. Scrub the mixture into the surface with the stiff broom. Allow at least 10 minutes for the bubbling of the acid to stop.

    • 5). Pour a 1 pound box of baking soda into a gallon of water and mix thoroughly. Pour the mixture on the cement and spread it around with the stiff broom. This will neutralize the acid.

    • 6). Rinse the cement with water from the garden hose and allow it to dry.
