The Vespa LX 150, part of the second phase of modern Vespa scooters, comes with a number of features that benefit both the weekend city driver and the risk-taker who wants to open up the throttle on a rural county road. Redesigned with a stronger engine that reduces emissions to meet American pollution standards, the LX 150 can easily carry a rider and passenger just about anywhere they would like to go on a paved road. Detailed specifications are provided below. - Speed: The top range suggested by Piaggio, the scooter's manufacturer, is 59 mph.
Mileage: With a full tank of 2.3 gallons of unleaded gasoline, the LX 150 can travel between 70 and 75 miles before a refill is needed.
Engine: The LX 150 has a four-stroke engine with a displacement of 150cc and a single-cylinder piston. Note that in some states this engine may be too small to legally ride on the highway.
Body height: Being designed for the average rider, the seat height is just under 31 inches from the ground.
Cost: The suggested retail price, per Piaggio, is $4,500. However, dealers may mark this up a bit higher for their profit margins. The final price out the door depends significantly on sales negotiations.
Colors: Standard factory colors include gloss black, fire engine red, baby metallic blue and light bronze. - Frame: The body of the Vespa LX 150 follows the designs of the original Vespa scooters, with a full metallic frame body supported internally by structural welds.
Suspension: The shock absorbers are adjustable. Owner may set the shocks to four different levels, to accommodate personal preferences.
Brake Systems: The front wheel incorporates a hydraulic disc brake stopping system while the rear wheel uses a drum brake design. - Covers: Piaggio provides a custom-designed scooter cover specific for the LX 150 and similar modern Vespas.
Rear luggage: The top case, which locks to the LX 150's stock rear rack, can hold a small half-shell helmet or a jacket and food for a trip.
Windshield: Piaggio offers a custom windshield to match the headset profile of the modern Vespa, so there is no need to jury-rig a different model to fit the new scooter.
