While LCD, plasma and LED televisions are seizing the market, cathode ray tube (CRT) displays are appreciated less and less. Still, CRT monitors continue to produce the best color, the highest contrast levels and the best object-in-motion response times of any television. Among CRT televisions, models such as the Sony WEGA stand out, with advanced Trinitron technology and other specifications that give WEGA televisions vibrant picture and sound. - One of the most distinguishing features of the Sony WEGA 36-inch TV is the flat CRT screen. This differs from most CRT screens, which curve to capture television images from the ray tube. The secret of the WEGA's flat screen is the inclusion of Trinitron technology. Trinitron technology uses a grill over the CRT display's electron gun to better sort and combine electrons before display. The result is a smoother picture that displays all the way to the edges of the screen, even on a flattened screen. Flat screens both provide sharper images and reduced glare in sunny environments.
- This television has a native resolution up to 1080i (integrated). This is not as sharp as 1080p (progressive) scan, but delivers deeper colors and smoother motion. The aspect ratio of the WEGA 36-inch is 4:3 or standard aspect ratio. To fill the entire screen on a 4:3 television, images must be pan and scan or cut to fit a square screen, in contrast to HD televisions which display picture in 16:9, or letterbox, aspect ratio.
