- A preexisting condition is a new condition that develops prior to obtaining the policy. Travelers insurance companies describe a new condition as not only a new illness, but also a change in medication for a chronic illness. It also includes any new symptoms.
- These changes are only considered if they take place within a certain amount of time prior to the onset of the policy. This time frame is usually three months to a handful of weeks prior to policy start.
- The preexisting condition waiver is granted if the condition is found to pass the time frame and definition tests presented here. The traveler can then purchase a policy.
