Troubleshooting an IS550 Genie Garage Door

    • 1). Change any batteries in the remote controls if the door won't operate when you want it to. Make sure there aren't any stuck buttons---and don't forget the wall keypad if there is one.

    • 2). Check the Safe-T-Beam eyes if the opening is erratic. They are the sensors on the sides of the door that stop the door descending if their invisible beam is broken. They act as a safety feature. Clean the lenses with a soft cloth. Dust and dirt can cause problems. Eyeball them to make sure they haven't been knocked out of alignment.

    • 3). Adjust the force controls and the limit switches. The force control is the control that stops the door when it hits the floor and when the door is completely open. The limit switches adjust the door stopping before it is fully open or closed. The open and close force adjusting screw is on the front panel of the power head. Turn the "Close" adjusting screw counter-clockwise until it stops.

    • 4). Close the door and look at the close limit switch, it's on the channel that leads from the motor. It's switch is furthest from the motor. If the door closes and the top of the door hits the close limit switch, adjustment is complete. If the door stops, but doesn't fully close, measure the distance between the bottom of the door and the floor. Move the limit switch that distance. Test---but keep clear of the door---adjust the close force adjustment screw until you've got it right.

    • 5). Follow the same concepts and procedure to adjust the open force and limits. The open limit screw is nearest to the motor.
