Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi Vs. Honda CB Unicorn - Who Fares Better?

A comparative study of vehicles is one sure shot way to find out which one of them is better. It helps one to arrive at an informed decision about the vehicle one wishes to buy and hence, can find the best vehicle that perfectly suits ones need.

Here we attempt to compare two of the best-seller vehicles, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and Honda CB Unicorn against one another. Since both the bikes appear attractive at the onset, it is a wise move to compare the features before zeroing in on the best choice. Certain common parameters like cost, engine power, mileage and other specifications are considered for a balanced review of the bikes.

Cost - The price of the bike is the most important determinant of the vehicle one can buy. If a bike does not fit in the budget of the prospective buyer, then there is no point in doing endless research about it. Since price factor is the most decisive parameter, most companies exercise much care in pricing their vehicles. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi comes at a base price of INR 67145/- (ex-showroom). Alternately, the Honda CB Unicorn can be acquired for a price of INR 63208/-. If we consider the price factor alone, the Honda wins the battle.

Engine - However, one cannot make a purchase decision based on cost alone. Engine power and performance also matters a lot. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is powered by a 149.0 cc, 4-Stroke, DTSi, Air-cooled engine, which generates a maximum power of 14.09 bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 12.76 Nm at 8500 rpm. The CB unicorn generates a power of 13.3 bhp at 8000 rpm along with a peak torque of 1.3 kg at 5000 rpm, thanks to its 149.1 cc, 4 Stroke, Air-cooled, SI Engine. Though both bikes seems to be at par, the Unicorn is slightly powerful and faster than the Pulsar.

Mileage - The Pulsar offers a mileage of 50 to 55 kmpl. The CB Unicorn fares better in this as well, as it returns a mileage of 55 to 60 kmpl. Both the bikes come with a top-speed of 118 kmph.
Other Specifications - Both bikes achieve the speed of 60 kmph (from zero) in about five seconds and comes with five gears (one down and four up pattern). Pulsar has a superior fuel tank capacity of 15 liters (3.2l as reserve), whereas Unicorn comes with a fuel tank capacity of 13 liters (1.3l as reserve). Though both bikes are almost similar in width and height, Unicorn is slightly longer than Pulsar. It also offers better ground clearance than the Pulsar.

Hence, head to head, Honda Unicorn looks a better choice than Bajaj Pulsar.
