How to Hookup My Laptop to My TV
- 1). Identify connection options on the laptop and television. Possible connection ports are component (RCA), Super-Video (S-Video), high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI), video graphics array (VGA) and digital video interface (DVI). Then find a cord that will connect to both the laptop and computer. For example, if you identify that you have an S-Video port on your laptop and RCA ports on your television, your cable needs to be S-Video to RCA.
- 2). Tune the television to the correct channel or input. Channel 2 is the most common source for older model televisions, but if you have a television with multiple input options, you must select the appropriate input. For example, if you choose to use the HDMI port on your television, you would press "input" or "source" on the television remote and choose "HDMI" from the options that appear.
- 3). Adjust the laptop settings to be compatible with the television. The screen resolutions and aspect ratios of your television and laptop must be the same for a clear image. Mac laptops are preset to automatically adjust these settings to the monitor, your television screen in this case. You can change these settings manually in PC laptops by accessing the "Display Settings" in the "Control Panel." If you need additional help, your user's manual or the manufacturer's website has more information about video output.
