How to Remove a Mildew Smell From a Dishwasher

    • 1). Pour one cup of bleach into one gallon of water. Remove the grates from the bottom of your dishwasher by sliding them out or by unscrewing the screws, depending on your dishwasher. Clean the bottom of the dishwasher by dipping a sponge into bleach solution and rubbing it back and forth. Pay extra attention to the gasket on the bottom, which likely has the most buildup.

    • 2). Clean the walls of the dishwasher, as well as the door. Also spend time cleaning the grates with the solution. Although mildew often grows on the bottom of the washer, it can appear anywhere.

    • 3). Reinsert the grate inside the dishwasher. Pour the remainder of the bleach solution in the bottom of the dishwasher. Run the dishwasher on a normal cycle without dishes and without adding extra soap. Once the cycle is done, the smell should be gone. If not, repeat the process again.
