Why Does Your Dog Chew?

If you put in time and effort you can eliminate your dog's destructive chewing problem.
Start by using these few steps.
First of all make sure to put all your belongings up where your dog has no possible way to reach them.
This way they won't even have the opportunity to destroy your items.
You must start doing right from the beginning is make your dog stay in a part of the house that you have dog proofed.
This is because as soon as you get your precious dog to understand that chewing is wrong than he or she will learn that chewing will not be permitted in your home.
Let's talk about dog-proofing your home.
Fundamentally, this is placing all your belongings up so your dog has nothing that they can put their teeth around.
Bear in mind, some dogs are bigger than others so if you own a big dog place your belongings up high enough so your precious pooch can't reach them.
A few things that dogs really love to get their mouth around are cell phones, books, remote controls, shoes and garbage so take extra care to place these objects where your dog's mouth can't reach.
In addition to the items listed above dogs love to get a hold of food so certainly don't leave any kind of food lying within your dogs reach.
Remember some dogs are very agile and when it comes to getting their mouth around food they can reach very high.
Remember, it is in a dog's nature to chew especially puppies that are not yet one year old and dogs that are under the age of three years old.
Another thing is that you must spend lots of time supervising your dog.
This means that you can't just leave your dog in her pen or outside in the yard all day.
You have to interact with them and teach them that chewing isn't going to be tolerated.
They can't learn this if you don't teach them.
Most dogs need to chew so you need to make sure your dog has lots of toys or raw-hide bones to chew on thus you can't expect your dog not to chew on your belongings if they don't have their own belongings.
It is recommended that you go on a big shopping trip and buy your dog different types of toys.
This will allow them different kinds of things to chew, hopefully, it will keep them from destroying your belongings.
Finally, when you catch her chewing on anything that belongs to you make a loud noise such as raising your voice just a little and saying "Ah-Ah".
This will grab their attention long enough for you to give them one of their own toys thus teaching them to leave your items alone.
Remember though when they get their toy to praise them because showing them a little praise is a great way to teach them right from wrong.
In the beginning when you get the dog you must remember that your dog will at times try to chew on your possessions, but with toys of their own, you putting up your possessions so they can't reach any of them and you spending plenty of time with your dog surely you will be able to stop destructive chewing.
