How to Plant Radishes in Containers
- 1). Choose seeds that work well for container gardening--such as Cherry Belle, Scarlet Globe and Icicle. Icicle is a white, elongated radish.

Pick the container. Find a 10-inch-diameter container, but not a shallow dish type. You could go as small as 6 inches, but just make sure you use a pot with drainage holes. - 3
Use a packaged potting soil or soilless mixture.empty planting pots image by askthegeek from Fotolia.com
Purchase premixed potting soil or a soilless mixture. Soilless mixtures work better, but requires fertilization. Premixed potting mixtures generally come with the fertilizer already added. Do not use soil from your back yard. It does not drain well; it is heavier and may introduce disease. Purchased potting mixtures are free of disease. - 1
Place gravel in the bottom of the container.flower pots and garden tools image by tim elliott from Fotolia.com
Place a layer of gravel, river rock or clay pot shards in the bottom of the container. This helps with drainage. - 2). Fill the pot with potting mixture to about an inch from the top of the container.
- 3). Spread radish seeds across the top of the soil, and cover with about 1/4 inch potting mixture.
- 4). Water the container until potting mixture is damp, and water drains out the bottom of the container.
- 5). Cover the container with plastic wrap, and place in location until the seeds germinate, which should be in about four to six days.

Remove the plastic wrap. - 2). After plants have developed their second set of leaves, thin the plants so that they are about 2 inches apart.
- 3). Water the plants regularly depending on conditions. If the plants dry out this promotes dry, woody, peppery radishes, but if you keep them too wet, root rot will occur.
- 4). Fertilize the plants on a regular basis about once a week, if you are using a soilless potting mixture. Follow the directions on the soluble all-purpose fertilizer that you are using. If using a premixed potting soil, consult the bag for fertilizing directions.

Radishes are ready to harvest in 20 to 60 days. They are best when about an inch in circumference. Some people also eat the radish leaves.
