PTSD - Dealing With the Emotional Aftereffects of Trauma
I don't know why we aren't taught as children how to use affirmations.
Affirmations help build self esteem.
Self esteem is something that we all need in order to feel good about ourselves.
Maybe you're asking yourself what is an affirmation or how do I use it? It is a tool that is taught to people that have very low self esteems or maybe afraid of something, it is a thought or phrase that you repeat to yourself over and over and over again.
It should always be used in present tense, or in the here and know.
It is something good about you; it is how others see you and how you should see yourself.
Other people can pay you a compliment and if you don't see yourself as a good person, or pretty person, or whatever, you could have a very hard time accepting that compliment, or even believing them.
My greatest achievement in life was raising my son.
When I developed PTSD I had no choice but to let my family help me finish raising him.
For a long time I viewed myself as a bad mother because I had to ask for help.
My affirmation was "I am a good mother".
When thinking of an affirmation you should always use the word "I" or "me" or "my", and it should always be in present tents.
If you are not comfortable saying affirmations to yourself throughout the day you could write them down over and over again, or you could post an affirmation somewhere private, and when you have extra time, quietly to yourself repeat the phrase over and over again.
Affirmations cannot take the place of hard work, but it is a good way to help you regain your self esteem and value as a person.
In order for this to work you need to pick your battles, choose what you need to work on the most and come up with one phrase that relates to what you need know.
If you are asking yourself why bother, or that sounds stupid, or what's the point, there is a very good point.
Our brains are designed in such a way that If you hear something over and over again, at some point, you are going to start believing it.
