One Night in Bangkok - Popularizing Myself
I was in Thailand a few years ago on business and I had always wanted to return because I had a miserable time back then because I never left the hotel room.
Conferences are boring to begin with but when you are stuck in a room with a hundred other bored people, all of us forced to look out windows just to see that beautiful landscape and bustling city that we could not be a part of - it was disheartening.
This time though I was able to get an extra day out of my boss - citing travel time, jet lag and using business keywords like "popularizing myself" and "refreshing my zeal" - I was just making things up at this point to just get to stay one night in Bangkok without having to pack everything up this next morning and leave for another grueling flight.
I was really jazzed about staying another full day since I came in a day early I could play before the conference was to start so, unfortunately, no Bangkok nightlife for me.
But if you ever have a chance to go there some seriously sick nightclubs that go on way into the early morning.
Ah, maybe when I was young.
These days it's all about work and golf.
I took a super early flight from Philadelphia and landed pretty early in Thailand.
I planned this out so I could get full nights sleep and be bright-eyes and bushy tailed when I landed.
It worked.
No jet lag! I checked into my hotel, showered and change and went right out to get in a solid 18 at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.
It's not the most challenging of course but it is smack dab in the center of Thailand.
I didn't want to waste any amount of time after my tee time.
After I got myself cleaned off (I won't tell you my score - I am choosing to pretend the golf game didn't happen) I wanted to see some cultural sites because I love architecture (good thing since I work in interior design - lines, placement of furniture and what not) and Bangkok has some of the oldest, most beautiful pieces you could ever hope to see! So it was off to the Grand Palace for me.
The Grand Palace is where the Emerald Buddha is found.
The people of Thailand consider this one of the sacred and revered artifacts in all of Thailand.
I spent half the day there! I was smart enough to bring my digital camera.
If you arrive when it opens at 8:30 you can see everything by the time it closes at 3:30 and you will still have more than enough time to see many more sites.
After seeing the National Gallery Museum, National Museum and visiting the Floating Market it was time for to head back to the hotel so I could prepare to be bored senseless.
I did, however, decide to treat myself and joy myself a spa treatment at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel where I was staying - I was very relaxed for my conference.
Thailand is a cultural Mecca and Bangkok is at the center.
You really need more than a single day here.
Next time I will make up a better lie to stay longer.
Don't forget to check your cheapest Bangkok hotel & accommodation rates first before you go there!
