How to Remove the Shelf in a Dryer Drum
- 1). Unplug your dryer power cord and pull the dryer one foot away from the rear wall. Do not pull your dryer anymore than that because you do not want to cause undue strain on the exhaust duct.
- 2). Raise the lint trap door and remove the lint trap screen, if your dryer has the lint screen in the top of the dryer. Remove the two screws on the front inside lip of the lint trap opening with a Phillips-head screwdriver.
- 3). Insert a putty knife blade in the seam between the front and top panels. Slide the putty knife until you feel an obstruction. The obstruction is the spring clip securing the top panel. Move the putty knife blade over the spring clip while lifting on the corner of the top panel.
- 4). Continue lifting up on the top panel until the opposite corner spring clip disengages. Tilt the top panel toward the rear of the dryer and allow it to sit in a service position.
- 5). Open the dryer door and rotate the drum by hand until the baffle is at the top center. Find the three screws on the outside of the dryer drum securing the baffle.
- 6). Reach inside the drum and hold the baffle with one hand. Loosen and remove the three screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver in your other hand. Remove the baffle from the drum.
