How to Trim Hair for a Low Blunt Cut Ponytail
- 1). Clean the hair with a clarifying shampoo. Rinse thoroughly with cool water and towel dry.
- 2). Drape a large towel around the shoulders. Attach the ends of the towel using clips. Comb the tangles out with a wide tooth comb.
- 3). Part the hair from behind one ear to the other across the head. Divide this section down the middle. Gather each section into a clip.
- 4). Part the back hair down the middle. Gather each section into a clip.
- 5). Remove a ½ -inch of the bottom hair from each of the back sections. Comb the hair straight down. Instruct the client to touch her chin to her chest. Cut a straight line across the hair removing 1 inch of hair. Continue this process until all the back hair has been cut.
- 6). Remove a ½ -inch bottom section from the side section of the hair. Pull the hair to the back section and comb. Follow the existing straight line and cut the new section to join it.
- 7). Remove another ½ -inch section and pull it backward to meet the cut section. Cut the new section the same length. Repeat this process until both of the side sections have been cut.
- 8). Shake the head and comb. Ensure all pieces are the same length. Remove the neck hair using a clipper, or a razor, on the nape of the neck. Brush off any stray hairs.
- 9). Comb the hair back to the nape of the neck. Gather it together in one hand as you insert it into a barrette and make a low, blunt-cut ponytail.
