How to Make a Wood Crate
- 1). Cut 12 plywood boards so that they are each 12 inches long by 6 inches wide.
- 2). Cut 12 plywood boards so that they are each 12 inches long by 1 inch wide.
- 3). Place two 12-by-6 boards side by side so that the two 12-inch sides meet, then place two 12-by-1 boards so that the 12-inch sides are perpendicular to the 12-inch sides of the 12-by-6s. The 12-by-1s should be 1 inch from either edge of the 12-by-6s. Attach them using wood glue and a staple gun. These will be the crate panels. Repeat this step with the remaining plywood boards until you have six of these panels.
- 4). Place the bottom panel so that the two 12-by-1s are on the bottom of the piece, then place the side panel so that the two 12-by-1s are facing into the crate. The side piece should be at a 90 degree angle from the bottom crate. Attach the pieces using the staple gun to drive staples from the bottom of the bottom panel in through the side of the 12 x 1 pieces of the side panel. Repeat this step with another side panel directly across from the first one.
- 5). Attach another side panel to the structure built in Step 4. This panel should be placed so that the 12-by-1s are facing out from the box. To attach the piece, drive a staple from the face of the panel into the side of the 12-by-1s of the side panels previously attached. Repeat this step with another side panel on the fourth side.
- 6). Place the last remaining panel over the opening of the crate; this will be the lid of the crate. The lid need not be attached.
