Hotels in NoLita, New York
- The Nolitan Hotel was named one of "New York's Best New Hotels" by Travel + Leisure Magazine for 2010. This luxury boutique property is located at the corner of Kenmare and Elizabeth Streets at the edge of Chinatown. The modern facade of the hotel is dark wood and stone, in contrast with the cobblestoned Old New York Street outside. Inside you will find modern design with minimalist furnishings and clean edges. The hotel is home to J+S Food Hall and a rooftop event space, and features free Wi-Fi Internet and laptop loans. Standout amenities include Red Flower toiletries, free daily newspaper, and free bicycles and skateboards to get around the city. They will even pack and unpack your luggage for free.
- The Gem Hotel Soho is aptly named and provides accommodations in a central location for a relatively low rate. Classified as a luxury boutique property, the Gem Soho is on East Houston at Forsythe Street. Less grand in appearance and design than some of the other local boutique accommodations, the Gem welcomes the same type of young and trendy crowd, and its location and value make it very popular. Rooms feature large flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi Internet, cordless phones, oversize pillows, bathrobes and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.
- In an obvious nod to the discounted outlet store version of the 5th Avenue icon Saks Off-Fifth, the Off Soho Suites is a self-proclaimed "Discount Hotel." Located at Rivington and Christie Streets in the Lower East Side (about two blocks from Nolita), the hotel features oversize one- or two-room suites with full kitchens. The hotel occupies an unassuming brick tenement building like those seen throughout downtown, with an art gallery on the ground floor, free Wi-Fi, a fitness center and a guest laundry. The rooms are reminiscent of small apartments, and have flat-panel TVs and wood floors. This hotel allows pets. Only the two-room suites feature private bathrooms; others may be shared.
- The Crosby Street Hotel is technically in Soho, two blocks west of the NoLita boundary. The hotel building has large factory-style windows and stands 11 stories high. Besides its guestrooms, the hotel features a screening room and film club, the Crosby Bar & Terrace where afternoon tea is served, the Green rooftop kitchen garden, the Drawing Room resident's lounge complete with fireplace, and a gym. As part of a small British chain, the Crosby Street Hotel has English touches throughout -- like the staid yet stylish black-and-white room decor, British crafted artwork throughout, and rates you might find in London. Rooms have full length windows, high ceilings, Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs and i-Pods.
- The Sunshine Hotel deserves honorable mention as one of the last true Bowery "flop houses." It is unchanged since the 1930's and remains one of the last stops on the way down the ladder. This iconic hotel is a window into what downtown skid row once was. Rates are low.
- There are a diverse collection of attractions in the NoLita vicinity. Soho is filled with high-end boutiques and chain stores. Canal Street and Chinatown are like stepping into Shanghai, with shopping bargains and countless food options. If you are a fan of art-house or classic films, stop at the Angelika theater on Houston and Mercer. NYU is a few blocks away, as is the West Village and its hip culture. Washington and Thompkins Square parks are both a few minutes to the north, and beyond them you will find the Village, Union Square and the rest of downtown. The New Museum and Anthology Film Archives are nearby as well.
