How to Configure Linksys Wireless to Work on My Existing LAN
- 1). Open a web browser and type the IP address for your router. If you kept the defaults when installing it for your wired network, then the IP address is 192.168.1.1.
- 2). Enter the console's administrator name and password. The default values are a blank user name and the password is "admin."
- 3). Click the "Wireless" tab at the top of the Linksys console menu. This opens the wireless settings window. There are only a few settings for wireless, and they are all listed in this screen.
- 4). Enter a network ID in the text box labeled "Wireless Network Name (SSID)." This is the name that broadcasts, so when wireless users view available networks, they see this value. Click the "Save Settings" button to save these configuration.
- 5). Click the "Wireless Security" link. This opens the option to encrypt data across the wireless connection, which improves security. Most home users select "WPA2 Personal." Enter a password in the text box. This is the password needed to connect to your wireless connection. Click the "Save Settings" button.
- 6). Close the Linksys console and use a wireless machine to test the new settings. When installing the wireless connection on a computer, you will see the SSID entered in Step 4. The router will prompt you for a password, and then you have a wireless connection to the router.
