How to Handle a Roommate That Snores
- 1). Inform your roommate that he snores in the middle of the night. Chances are he will not even be aware of this fact. Remember that you need not accuse him, because snoring is not a malicious act, especially if the person does not know he is doing it to begin with.
- 2). Consider your roommate's lifestyle habits. For example, frequent alcohol intake causes snoring. She may not know about this correlation, so while you cannot stop her from drinking, knowing she is snoring because of it may lead her to limit her intake.
- 3). Ask your roommate to sleep on his side. Especially in a case of sleep apnea, the trachea can narrow when a person lies on his back, leading to snoring. Turning to the side removes this obstruction, allowing air to flow as normal -- quietly.
- 4). Purchase nasal strips, commonly found in supermarkets and pharmacies. Nasal strips are designed to clear the airways and allow air to flow normally.
- 5). Purchase a humidifier. In some cases, a dry throat or raw sinuses can affect a person's snoring. The humidifier clears the sinuses and moistens the throat, eliminating this cause.
