Troubleshooting a Kobalt Air Compressor
- 1). Check that the power is on to the unit and then press the reset button if the compressor will not operate.
- 2). Reduce the air demand or use a compressor with more air capacity if there is low discharge pressure. Listen for any air leaks. Rub a soap and water solution over all the fittings and connections and watch for any bubbles to pinpoint a possible leak. Tighten or replace any fittings or connections as necessary. Clean or replace the air filter.
- 3). Tighten the drive pulley or flywheel bolt if there is an excessive "knocking" sound coming from the compressor. Check the lubrication oil at the sight glass. This is a small glass window that has two lines etched in the glass. The oil level should be between the lines. Low or dirty oil can cause damage to the bearings. Use a quality, nondetergent 30 or 40w oil.
- 4). Drain the compressor tank at least once a day if there is excessive water in the unit or the discharge line. You can also add an inline filter to reduce moisture in the air line.
- 5). Check for any loose electrical connections if the breaker or reset button keeps tripping.
- 6). Tighten or replace all fittings if the tank does not hold pressure when it is off and the shut-off valve is closed. Check for a crack or pinhole in the tank. Replace the tank if this is the case.
- 7). Replace the check valve if the pressure switch un-loader constantly leaks air. The pressure switch automatically controls the on/off cycling of the compressor. It stops the compressor when the tank has reached its capacity and starts up again once the pressure has dropped.
- 8). Check that the compressor is mounted on a level surface with rubber vibration pads if there is excessive vibration coming from the unit.
- 9). Clean all cooling surfaces of any dirt or dust if the unit is overheating. Make sure the compressor is situated in a cool, dry location.
