Ayurvedic Treatment for Hypertension ( High Blood Pressure )

Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the arteries have elevated blood pressure. Every time the human heart beats, it pumps blood to the whole body through the arteries. Hypertension is classified as essential or secondary. Essential hypertension is with unknown cause. It accounts for about 90% of cases. Secondary hypertension is with a known direct cause, such as kidney disease, tumors, or birth control pills.

There may be no signs or symptoms, or any of the following:
  • Headache

  • Blurred vision

  • Chest pain

  • Dizziness or weakness

  • Trouble breathing

  • Nose bleeds

Pathophysiology of Hypertension ( High Blood Pressure ):
Hypertension is a chronic elevation inblood pressure that causes end-organ damage and results in increased morbidity and mortality. Blood pressure is the product of cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance. This follows that patients with arterial hypertension may have an increase in cardiac output or an increase in systemic vascular resistance, or both. In the younger age group, the cardiac output is often high, while in older patients increased systemic vascular resistance and increased stiffness of the vasculature play a dominant role. The Vascular tone may be elevated because of increased α-adrenoceptor stimulation and increased release of peptides such as angiotensin. The final pathway is an increase in cytosolic calcium in vascular smooth muscle causing vasoconstriction. Several growth factors, including angiotensin and endothelins, cause an increase in vascular smooth muscle mass termed vascular remodelling. Both an increase in systemic vascular resistance and an increase in vascular stiffness augment the load imposed on the left ventricle; this induces left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.
The ayurvedic treatment include the treatment done through herbs like Terminalia arjuna, ficus religiosa, boerhavia diffusa, cinnamomum zeylanica, elettaria cardamom, arjuna, amla, ashwagandha, shankhpushpi, brahmi.
