Your core is a very important part of yoga because if you have a strong core it will help with your posture and body strength.
Your core is needed to help support your back, which helps eliminate back compression and pain.
If you sit in front of a computer all day, it is nice to give your back a break and will also keep you from slouching over a desk.
When doing yoga moves, your core is what you use to position yourself into different poses and the need of the core will help other body parts get the most out of a stretch and strength in the best way possible without injury.
