Hexacon Electric Company, established in 1932, provides a large array of soldering irons and tips. The company has pioneered many innovative techniques and tools in the field of soldering irons. According to its website, Hexacon developed the first long-life, iron-plated tip technology, the first industrial pencil-style soldering iron and the first soldering analyzer for thermal profile engineering. Hexacon offers three main categories of tips: plug, screw and sleeve. - Plug tips are used with plug tip style soldering irons. They work best for continuous soldering work. According to Hexacon's website, plug tip irons are lighter in weight and have a maximum wattage of roughly 500 watts.
Hexacon plug tips come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The shapes include: full chisel, semi-chisel wide and narrow, conical chisel, conical blunt, sharp conical, pyramid, mushroom conical chisel, mushroom chisel and bevel 45 degree. The sizes range from 1/8 of an inch to one and 1 1/8 of an inch. - According to Hexacon's website, when compared to plug tip irons, "Screw Tip irons are generally heavier and max out at 800 watts of power." Hexacon screw tips come in plated and copper plated varieties. The size range is from 1/2 inch to 1 3/4 inches.
- Sleeve tips go with Hexacon's Micro-Stedi soldering irons and stations. The 1/16 of an inch size comes in the following shapes: chisel, sharp conical, bevel and full chisel. The 1/64 of an inch tip only comes in the sharp conical shape. The 1/32 of an inch tip only comes in the bevel shape. The other size, 1/8 of an inch, only comes in the chisel shape.
