How to Make a String Tie?

    • 1). Drape the length of braided leather or leather cord around your neck while wearing a shirt. Determine the desired length for your string tie. Cut the leather to that measurement. Set it aside temporarily.

    • 2). Choose a complimentary bolo slide or clasp, bolo tips and gemstone or coin embellishment. Glue the embellishment to the front of the slide or clasp, using jewelry glue. Follow the glue manufacturer's package instructions and allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 3). Thread the ends of the leather through the top of the openings on the back of the slide or clasp, creating the string tie. Tighten the slide or clasp's locking devices around the cords so that it can be moved easily up and down the length of the cords but not so loose that it slips while wearing it.

    • 4). Apply glue to one end of the cord and place a bolo tip over the end of the cord. Use the needle-nose pliers to gently crimp the tip to create a tight fit around the cord. Allow the glue to dry completely. Repeat this process with the other end of the cord.

    • 5). Push the slide or clasp down the length of the tie toward the end tips to create an opening large enough to place the tie over your head and down around your collar.

    • 6). Position the slide and tighten the tie as desired.
