How to Change Oil in a Snowblower

    • 1). Position your snow blower over a level surface. Start the snow blower and allow it to run for 5 minutes. This warms up the oil, which allows removal of more oil when draining. Shut off the engine and pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug.

    • 2). Unscrew the oil fill cap from the fill tube. Wipe the dipstick that attaches to the bottom of the fill cap with a cloth. Set the fill cap on a flat, clean surface. Locate the oil drain tube on your snow blower, which is near the bottom of the crankcase.

    • 3). Clean the area around the drain valve with a cloth. Place a container under the end of the drain valve. Make sure it is large enough to hold the removed oil. Remove the plug on the end of the drain valve by turning it counterclockwise using a wrench.

    • 4). Allow the oil to drain into the container. Once the oil is no longer draining, insert the plug back into the drain valve. Tighten the plug with the wrench and wipe off any residual oil from the drain valve area.

    • 5). Place a funnel into the top of the fill tube. Pour 21 ounces of 5W-30 motor oil into the fill tube. Remove the funnel and screw the oil fill tube cap onto the fill tube.

    • 6). Remove the fill cap and check the oil level. Add oil as necessary until the oil level is at the “Full” mark on the dipstick. Screw the oil fill cap onto the fill tube until it is tight. Push the spark plug wire back on the top of the spark plug.
