Bacon, Lettuce + Tomato with Basil Aioli on Brioche
Big crispy slices of country-style bacon, fresh thick slices of salted tomato, sweet, crisp butter lettuce, and a basil aioli that makes you want to lick the bowl all come together between two buttery halves of a brioche bun. If you thought a regular old BLT was good, wait until you try this one!
The beautiful thing about these sandwiches? Not only do they hold up really well, but they also taste better as it sits. I imagine this is a result of all the flavors melding and coming together over an extended period of time... eh hem more like everything starts to taste like bacon... but yeah, this is basically my favorite version of a BLT and I'm pretty certain you will love it, too.
Ingredients
- 2 brioche buns
- 6 slices of crispy country style bacon
- 4 big butter lettuce leaves
- 1 beefsteak tomato, sliced thick
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 1 half lemon
- 1/4 garlic clove, chopped fine
- 5-6 basil leaves, julienned
- 1 pinch sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- Prep Time: 60 minutes
- Total Time: 60 minutes
- Yield: 2 sandwiches
Preparation
1. Begin by making the aioli. In a small mixing bowl, add the mayo, lemon, basil, garlic, sugar and salt. Stir and let sit for about an hour before using. You could use right away, but it won't taste as good.
2. Next slice the bun in half and toast the bread carefully. Brioche has a high fast content so it will burn more quickly than other breads if you don't watch it. Now smear the a hefty amount of basil aioli onto each side.
To the bottom bun, add the tomato and sprinkle with salt. Next, half bacon to each sandwich. Top with the butter lettuce and finish with the remaining pieces of bread. Serve immediately.
