How to Play Soccer Like Cristiano Ronaldo
- 1). Study videos of Ronaldo playing soccer (see Resources). Focus on how he takes several touches on the ball where other players take fewer, which ensures that he maintains remarkably close control of the ball and allows him to dribble past opponents. Concentrate particularly on Ronaldo's trademark step-over maneuver, which can mesmerize defenders en route to goal. Pay close attention, also, to how Ronaldo strikes the football, particularly when taking set pieces (throw-ins, free kicks, corner kicks).
- 2). Transfer what you have studied to the training ground. Practice your Ronaldo skills by attempting the Portuguese winger's techniques in your dribbling, running, step-overs and ball-striking. Keep trying tricks and skills even if you initially are unable to replicate Ronaldo's abilities -- it is only through intensive practice that you will see results.
- 3). Ask a coach or teammate to step out of the training session and watch you test your Ronaldo skills. Have them focus on your feet in particular and instruct you on how you can improve in order to replicate Ronaldo. Offer to step out of the session and watch them attempt different maneuvers and skills to reciprocate.
- 4). Introduce your new-found and honed skills to competition. Try skills and tricks sparingly; if over-used, you will become too predictable and easier to read. Press your Ronaldo skills in matches, but be aware that you have a responsibility to your teammates and coaches so, if you find your tricks are not effective, play in a more orthodox and simple style and save your Ronaldo effects for another situation or match.
