How Can I Make Wheatgrass at Home?

    • 1). Put wheatgrass seeds in a colander and rinse them under cool running water. Mix the seeds with your hand while they rinse to remove as much dust and dirt as possible.

    • 2). Soak the seeds in a bowl of water overnight. This will soften the shell and increase the chance of germination.

    • 3). Fill a pot or planting tray with moist potting soil. The soil should be just moist enough that it packs when compressed. If you expect to use wheat grass on a daily basis, use multiple pots, perhaps one small pot for each day of the week.

    • 4). Sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil. Sow about 10 seeds for every square inch of surface. Cover the seeds lightly with a layer of soil.

    • 5). Cover the pot with newspaper and put it on a sunny windowsill. Fill a spray bottle with water and mist the soil once per day.

    • 6). Remove the newspaper once green leaves sprout from the seeds. Continue the daily watering regimen. Keep a constant moisture level in the soil.

    • 7). Harvest the wheat grass once the blades reach 8 inches. Cut the grass an inch above the soil with clean scissors.
