Ghostwriter Costs

Ghostwriters are used in all walks of writing, but are most commonly known for their role in memoirs, business and political books.
The idea is simple: I pay you to write my story so I can publish a book.
Great.
But it does cost...
The cost of employing a ghostwriter varies according to a number of factors, the most important of which are the time it will take to write the piece, and who the ghostwriter actually is.
Most ghostwriting firms take into account six major factors when quoting for a ghostwriter's services.
These factors determine the price of hiring a ghostwriter.
Time of job- Evidently, the longer a ghostwriter's services are required, the greater the price of hire.
Short manuscripts will cost less than long manuscripts.
The ghostwriter him/herself- Well-known, accomplished ghostwriters will charge a greater price for their services.
While one may be temped to employ the cheapest ghostwriter, better-known ones can have an advantageous effect on the sale of the book, so this must be carefully considered when hiring a ghostwriter.
Interview specs- The time it will take to complete the necessary interviews, the number of interviewees, the availability of these interviewees, and the commitment of the client to the project all affect price of hire.
Research specs- Some manuscripts, especially nonfiction ones, require a substantial amount of research.
The thoroughness of which will result in the authenticity of the manuscript.
If a ghostwriter is to look through vast amounts of source material in preparation, the likelihood is that the price of hire will rise.
Firm- The firm from which the ghostwriter has been hired also takes its toll as a monetary value.
An established firm may charge higher rates, but with an added benefit: one is assured of professional service and no personal debate.
When freelance ghostwriters are hired, disputes can arouse around the issue of money, and one can lose out on his entire investment.
Manuscript design complexity- Should the required plot, tone, diction and format be complicated, the price of hiring the ghostwriter may be costly, whereas a simple manuscript will demand much less of the ghostwriter, resulting in a lowered price of hire.
Beyond these factors which influence the price of the job, the most important aspect to consider remains subjective.
The ghostwriter who is chosen must be perfectly compatible with the employer.
Much interaction will occur between the two parties, and if personalities clash, the written piece will remain just that, rather than a best-seller.
So, choose wisely, taking all these factors into account.
