In 1986, government of India enacted consumer protection act 1986. This act was established to protect customer,to guard consumer from unfair trade practice. This act applies on goods and services. This act mandates the establishment of special type of courts known as consumer court. Consumer protection lays down the consumer rights which are necessary for customers.
Consumer courts are specially established for this purpose only. Consumer courts are meant for resolving consumer complaints. customer can easily file their complaints in consumer forum as the process of filing case is very easy.
Filing case do not consist any complicated steps. Just you have to submit written complaint and some necessary documents. In India it is the three tire structure- district forum, state commission, and national commission. Every state has its own state forum and every district has its own state commission.
And the apex body, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission is situated in Delhi. Consumer can easily file their complaints in district forum (up to 20 lakh), state commission (up to 1 crore) or in National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
