Yet you can think of the reason that God thought of a companion for Adam as being complex, but the answer is very simple.
The bible says that Adam was created in the likeness of God, and that is where everything lay.
Likeness does not mean God, so Adam was a lowly figure in the hierarchy of God.
This was the reason as to why he thought of a companion, because he wanted someone who was in the same level as himself.
So God made a woman, and the woman became Eve, her beauty mesmerized the poor son of soil during this age old first dating instance, to a point of seeing no fault when he was given the forbidden fruit.
This is where the point that a man and woman cannot be just friends.
From the story of creation to now, the two beings are always in magnetic attraction towards each other and it does not really matter how old or how young the women and men are.
They were made to lie in the sublimes of magnetic attraction and complement each other.
