How to Clean Elk Ivories

- 1). Lightly rub the ivories with lukewarm water to remove lose debris. Be careful not to scratch the ivory with your fingernails.
- 2). Soak the ivories in 1 cup of peroxide for no longer than 24 hours.
- 3). Rinse the ivories in lukewarm water and let them dry for 2 hours. If you fail to rinse the ivories after they soak, the peroxide will continue to erode them, resulting in a rough surface.
- 4). Soak the the ivories in hot water. Gently brush them with a toothbrush using light, up and down strokes. This should remove any leftover debris from the crevices.
- 5). Gently polish the ivories with a terry cloth towel.
