• 1). Have a high school diploma or GED. You will also need to be at least 21 years of age to attend classes with the adult learning center.
  
  
• 2). Apply to take the program's pre-admission exam. This is a 150-question test that will include questions to assess your reading, numerical understanding, and language ability. You will need to apply before the annual deadline, and then you will receive further information about when you can take the test.
  
  
• 3). Pass the pre-admission exam on your scheduled test date. You will then be allowed to continue with an application to the LPN training program, which will include an interview.
  
  
• 4). Complete the training program after you have been accepted. Expect to spend 9 to 12 months on the training, which will involve theoretical and clinical experiences.
  
  
• 5). Submit an application to the New York State Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX LPN licensing exam. You will need to pay a fee and have the learning center submit evidence of your completion of the educational requirements. You will also need to register with Pearson VUE in advance before the test. Once you have passed the test, you will be eligible to work as an LPN in New York State.
  
  

Medgar Evers College LPN Program

• 1). Have a high school diploma or GED and then complete any basic skills requirements that you have not already met. You will need to pass the reading, writing and math CUNY assessments before you can apply to the LPN program.
  
  
• 2). Apply to take the National League of Nursing pre-assessment examination. You can find information on the college website. You will need to submit your score when you apply for admission to the program.
  
  
• 3). Apply for admission to the LPN program. The application process will include an interview. If you are admitted, you will also need to submit evidence of vaccinations, current CPR certification, medical clearance and liability insurance.
  
  
• 4). Complete all of the courses in the LPN certification sequence with a grade of B- or higher.
  
  
• 5). Submit an application to the Board of Nursing to take the NCLEX LPN licensing exam. You will need to register with Pearson VUE before the test, pay a fee and have the college submit evidence of your completion of the educational requirements. You will also need to register with Pearson VUE in advance before the test. After you pass the test, you will be eligible to work as an LPN in New York.
